This piece is an exploration of legacy, memory, and the Earth.I dug a hole to create a space that would physically and metaphorically hold my form. In this hole, I laid down wearing a wedding dress, symbolizing my commitment to my art and the world around me. Terracotta was poured over my body, I became an imprint, in the earth, while embodying the idea of leaving my mark on the earth, as I so often do with my pottery, but in this context, I am leaving MY mark on the Earth. The burial represents my connection to the earth, where my spirit, and work, will remain when I am gone. The flowers I planted in the clay, Forget Me Not's, Myosotis Laxa, native to Maryland, serve as a symbol of growth, conservation, and remembrance.I was heavily inspired by Ana Mendieta’s land art, this piece combines performance as I filmed it, mark-making, and environmentalism, making a lasting impression on the earth that reflects both me as an artist and my dedication to the Earth.
